Making a scathing attack on the allopathic system of medicine, Yoga guru Swami Ramdev today alleged that almost 90 per cent of laboratory tests 'unnecessarily' recommended in big hospitals and leading clinics were meant for 'earning quick bucks' and asserted that in near future Yoga will push the allopathy to the background.

Taking on the multi-national companies engaged in medicine, Ramdev, who is holding a week-long Yoga camp here, told reporters that 40-50 MNCs are today busy counting the increasing number of diabetic patients in India with the 'sole motive to increase sale of their medicines.' Almost five crore diabetic patients in India at present are consuming medicines worth crores of rupees to the delight of these MNCs, he said and alleged that fearing threat to their business because of growing popularity of Yoga 'they are attacking me dubbing me as propagator of orthodoxy'.

Ramdev, who has been criticised by Indian Medical Association, said even members of IMA discuss about doctors prescribing too much medicines for a patient with commercial interests.

On the allegation that he was charging hefty money from those attending his camp, the Yoga guru said that he was charging money from those who have potential to pay. Besides, this money is used for expansion of the ashram and general welfare of society.

I agree with Swami Ramdev on unnecessary lab test. If you have health insurance, you will end up giving more unnecessary tests. It is my wish that people practice Yoga and get ride of their problems on their own. Allopathi might have the capability to cure the root cause of the illness, but the pharma companies are not manufacturing such medicines. Doctors get commission from medical representatives for prescribing medicines. So, it is win win situation for pharma and Doctors.

So, I feel Yoga is cheaper and safer in any way. This is how I convince my self to do Yoga.

It takes at least 5 hours to make a trip to the hospital.

It costs mental stress to visit hospital.

It costs money for tests and medicines.

If you hypothetically translate all the time, money, effort and stress that you go through in a trip to hospital, in my opinion, it equals to one month practice of Yoga at home. I could be wrong in calculating the numbers but I hope you got my point.

You don't have to be Indian or Hindu to do Yoga. It is just common sense.
