A lot of research has been carried out in the West in recent years and it has become very popular as a health food. I know for sure that taking ground linseed (or flaxseed) has a very beneficial effect on the elimination process (1-2 tablespoons) daily you will find passing stool very easy. It increases the bulk of stool so you need to drink extra water if you are not used to drinking much water. Many people like to take linseed oil but it has a short shelf life and really needs to be kept in a dark glass bottle and kept in the refrigerator. That's why I recommend, from personal use, that you grind (in a coffee grinder)just enough to use for a few days. In the beginning of the article you mentioned all the Indian names for flaxseed in different states. I live in Orissa and came to know that the Oriya name is pesi.
