Almost all the ayurvedic texts have stated sesame to be capable of curing the tridoshas. Sesame is sweet, bitter, hot and oily. Black, white and red sesame are the three types of sesame found. Scientists say that the white sesame has medium medicinal value. Red sesame is ordinary and black sesame is best.

School children are generally taught a couplet, which means that it is always good to keep a stick nearby as it has many qualities. The stick, which has been mentioned, is nothing but bamboo. We know that bamboo has several uses but we are unaware of its medicinal uses.

Linseed is grown along with the winter crops in large quantities throughout India. In the state of Himachal Pradesh the plants are grown at a height of 6,000 feet. Due to the difference in planting location throughout the country there is a difference in the size, color and shape of the seeds. The linseeds are found in different colors like white, yellow, red and black. There are a lot of varieties of seeds as well. The linseed grown in hot climatic areas are considered to be the best for medicinal use.

Pellitory root is considered to be origin of Arab, because Charak, Sushrut and Vagbhatt do not mention about this. Probably Unani Hakims (herbal doctors) brought it to India. But today it is considered to be the most popular herb of India and Arab. It is cultivated in a few regions of India. The small shoots grow with the beginning of the rains. The root is pungent in taste and the person feels hot when it is chewed and a burning sensation is felt on the tongue. As far as quality is concerned the root found in Arab is better.
